1st Customer Review : Best iPhone Case: Defender or Commuter?
Protecting a $200 phone is quite a formidable task and a lot of cell phone case companies do not seem to understand protection. They strive for style, design, and aesthetics. To me, this is all nonsense. Otterbox understands the principle of protection better than any other company making these types of products. Fuction is what I am looking for and and this company produces fuctioning cell phone cases. These 4S generation cases share an improved design, mainly with the camera area. I think people were complaining about shadowed pictures and video due to the tight camera cut out. They widened it to ensure the new 8MP camera with not be hindered by a design flaw.
First, the defender technically provides more protection than the commuter and also comes with a handy holster with a clip. However, the defender is bulky and the port covers do not stay as well as the model for the 3GS. Also, I am not a fan of the defender because of the screen protector it comes with...

2nd Customer Review : Decent protection but has flaws...
First off, I must warn you against buying this specific color in the Commuter series. I decided on getting the Grey/Yellow combo because I thought it looked pretty cool and it stood out...but the rubberized yellow part of the case discolors after carrying it around for only ONE day! I had this in and out of my coat pocket and just from slipping it in and out the yellow has turned "muddy-looking" and just looks BAD. I can't believe I have only owned this for a total of three days and the yellow part is so insanely discolored.
That isn't the only problem I have with the case though. I am also not a fan of the docking port flap/opening. The rubber tab has given me a ton of trouble opening and closing it. It now won't even close the entire way. It just kind of 'hangs there' in a droopy state.
I also dislike how little traction this case provides in terms of gripping. It's a slippery case. I need a case with more of a sturdy grip that won't slide right out of my...
3rd Customer Review : Best Case for Iphone 4S
I have had several cases for my Iphone 4S (Sprint). Otterbox Defender had issues with the holster clip. Speck Candyshell had issues with the rubber lip deteriorating when used with my leather belt pouch. iFrogz Lean Lux was my favorite case until the Otterbox. The iFrogz was great but i felt that i needed more protection than just a polycarbonate case.
Otterbox Commuter is great! The silicone inner case surrounds the Iphone with cutouts for the camera and apply symbol in back. I got the new design with the big camera hole. The silicone also has flaps for the charging/sync port and earphone port. The hard plastic backbone is kinda cheap looking (thin), but it is scratch-proof and does not show any fingerprint. And, most importantly, it keeps the silicone in place around the phone.
So, unlike many cases out there except for Candyshell, i love the design behind this because you have a soft inner core and a hard plastic outer cover to protect your iphone...
